Clinical notes
Test is part of Liver Function profile. An enzyme used in the investigation of liver disease/jaundice etc.  Like AST, It has a widespread distribution in tissues throughout the body, but is present in higher concentrations in the liver than AST. An increasingly common reason for measuring ALT is in screening for statin-induced liver damage. Sulfasalazine and Sulfapyridine may cause negative interference with this assay.
