Preparing for your stay

We aim to provide the highest standards of care and hope that your stay will be as pleasant and comfortable as possible. If you have any questions during your stay please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to help.

Before you leave home

On the day you are due to come in, please telephone us if you feel at all unwell eg. with a cough, cold or upset stomach. The telephone number to call is shown in your letter.

Please check your admission information for details of what you need to bring with you and how to prepare for your operation/treatment.

  • Depending on which type of anaesthetic you are having, you may need to stop eating and drinking beforehand. This will have been discussed with you by the nurse at your pre-assessment.
  • Bring any medication (including inhalers) that you normally take, ensuring they are in original containers with the labels attached, wherever possible. Taking your regular medication on the day of your operation will have been discussed with you by the nurse at your pre-assessment.
  • Bring a dressing gown, slippers and appropriate clothing and footwear for going home in.
  • Please bathe or shower on the morning of your operation and ensure that all make-up and nail varnish is removed.
  • Do not shave the wound area before coming into hospital.
  • Remove jewellery and decorative piercing (except your wedding ring). Please leave all valuables and jewellery at home.
  • If you wear contact lenses, please ensure that you have your glasses and lens case with you.
  • Bring evidence if you are exempt from paying prescription charges.
  • Please do not bring any valuables, large amounts of money or flammable materials, such as loose matches, lighter fuel, etc.
