The Gold Guide states that “employers must ensure that mechanisms are in place to support the training of trainees and to enable problems which may be identified to be addressed at an early stage in an open and supportive way.…. At a minimum this should include induction to both the employer and to the specific specialty training unit.”

In line with General Medical Council (GMC) and Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards, all Doctors in Training (DiT) joining this Trust must attend a two-day Corporate Induction.

Dr. Stephen Hearing, Consultant Gastroenterologist is the Trust Lead for Corporate Induction for DiT and is also responsible, in collaboration with the Postgraduate Education Co-ordinator, for overseeing Corporate Induction for Doctors in Training on behalf of the Executive Medical Director.

DiT Corporate Induction is a two-day programme with a blend of mandatory teaching, IT training and essential information required for a trainee doctor to commence work in the Trust.  All doctors in training must attend this tailor-made Induction and not the generic Corporate Trust Induction.

In order to comply with guidance the trainees must attend the full DiT Corporate Induction programme.   Doctors in training who are new to the Trust must not be placed on nights, twilights, on call or required to ‘hold a bleep’ prior to or on the day of Induction.  Rota planners should identify other medical staff to cover shifts.

If a doctor in training has been working outside of this Trust for 12 months or more since initially attending a Corporate Induction at DTHFT, they will be required to attend the Induction.  Discretion to this policy sits with the Lead for Corporate Induction for DiT.  Initially, please contact the Postgraduate Education Co-ordinator is further advice is required.

Subject to change DiT Corporate Inductions will be held following change over in February, April, June, July (F1 Trainees only), August, October and December.
