Queen Elizabeth II opens Pulvertaft Hand Centre

queen 1992

Her Majesty the Queen accompanied by Prince Philip officially opened the Pulvertaft Hand Centre in 1992. She also met and thanked members of the A&E team who had received casualties after the Kegworth air crash three years previously.

Hand Surgery

Guy Pulvertaft was one of the premier exponents of hand surgery. He was the foremost hand surgeon in the country and pioneered many different kinds of operations. He was succeeded by Frank Burke (now Professor Frank Burke) who transformed the clinic into a centre of excellence with a teaching centre and a library. He set up the new centre, gave it Guy Pulvertaft’s name, and forged ahead in research. It was officially opened by the Queen in 1992. It is renowned as one of the major hand surgery units in the country.
