Dedicated staff rewarded for their long service

Published 08/12/2017

Derby Teaching Hospitals has recognised the loyalty of some of our longest serving employees by rewarding them with an award.

More than 130 workers have been honoured for devoting between 25 and 45 years of their life to the NHS as part of the Trust’s annual Long Service Awards.

These members of staff have dedicated a massive 3,850 years to the health service between them, with some spending their whole careers with Derby Teaching Hospitals.

Gavin Boyle, Chief Executive of Derby Teaching Hospitals, said: “Every single member of staff has a role to play to ensure that we are in the best position to provide the quality and compassionate care that our patients deserve. We are so proud of our staff for devoting so much of their time to helping others and they all deserve our thanks. To see some colleagues dedicate as many as 40 or 45 years to the health service is amazing to see and I think it’s fitting that we honour them in this way.”

The Trust’s longest serving employee to be recognised this year was Healthcare Science Assistant Jacqueline Smith, who has been with the NHS for 45 years and currently works in the Royal Derby Hospital’s Pathology department.

To mark the milestone, Jacqueline was presented with a letter of thanks, as well as a badge and certificate signifying her length of continuous service.

She said: “It is really nice to be recognised in this way. I still love coming into work and I love the people I work with. My role is very satisfying because it leaves you feeling like you’ve achieved something important.”

Among other staff recognised for their long service were Chief Operating Officer Sharon Martin and Head of Midwifery Jane Haslam, who both celebrated 35 years of service.

In total, the awards honoured 1 member of staff for 45 years of service, 9 for 40 years of service, 42 for 35 years of service and a further 79 for devoting 25 years to the NHS.

The ceremony took place last night at the Royal Derby Hospital, with each member of staff receiving a certificate.
