City asthma team named as finalists in national award

A specialist team which supports patients with severe asthma has been named as one of the finalists in a prestigious national awards scheme.

The Improving Asthma Care Together team – known as ImpACT – has been shortlisted in the Respiratory Nursing category of the Nursing Times Award for the work they do to help patients at Derby Teaching Hospitals to manage their conditions.

Charlotte Bennett, one of the specialist nurses working with the team, has also been shortlisted in the Rising Star category.

Sonia Greenwood, Lead Asthma Nurse, said: “We’re delighted to have been named as finalists in these awards. It’s great to know that all of the work the team has done to help patients to manage their conditions and avoid emergency admissions has been recognised. We have a fantastic team here who are passionate about supporting our patients to help them have a better experience. I’m very proud that we have the chance to celebrate that.”

The ImpACT team was launched in January as part of a 12-month project to help patients to better manage their condition. The team runs clinics in the community and supports patients who are staying in hospital, as well as providing a dedicated advice line for patients, which they can call if their asthma symptoms are worsening.

The winners will be announced at the Nursing Times Awards ceremony, due to be held in London on 2 November.
