Spring into action with Carsington Water walk

Published 23/03/2017

Keen ramblers are being offered the chance to enjoy a walk around the beautiful Carsington Water while raising money for a good cause.

Derby Hospitals Charity has organised a sponsored walk around the reservoir to raise money for wards and departments at the Royal Derby and London Road Community hospitals and they are now looking for walkers to take part.

The 8.5-mile walk, on Sunday, 23 April, will see walkers using a level path heading through fields, woodland and villages alongside the reservoir.

Event organiser Kerry Brady said: “It is a fantastic opportunity to take in the beautiful sights of Carsington whilst supporting a worthy cause. There are some stunning views around the reservoir and it is the perfect chance to take part in some bird watching along the way or enjoy a well-earned picnic at the end of the walk.”

The walk was last held in 2014, when hundreds of people strapped on their walking boots to support the charity.

Viv Jones, who works in the Trust’s Elective Procedure Unit, is taking part in this year’s event with three of her colleagues. The group, called ‘The Royal Derby Fab 4’, are taking part as part of their training for a five-day trek across the Great Wall of China later this year. “We need to get in all the walking we can,” Viv said.

Members of the public, staff, supporters and dogs are welcome to take part in the walk. Entry costs £8, which will be used to cover the cost of the event. Walkers can set their own fundraising target at www.justgiving.com.
