Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive.

Gavin Boyle, who is currently Chief Executive at Chesterfield Royal Hospital, will take up his new role at Derby on March 7th.

“We were impressed with Gavin’s energy and enthusiasm and track record which placed quality, clinical leadership, support for staff and working in partnership as key priorities. As the region’s only acute trust rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission, with a national reputation as a beacon of innovation and best practice for quality care, safety and patient experience, he has accepted the offer to lead our Trust with great enthusiasm and we look forward to him joining us” said John Rivers, Chairman of Derby Teaching Hospitals.

Gavin Boyle brings a depth of experience to the role having been a Foundation Trust Chief Executive for the past eight years, most recently at Chesterfield Royal Hospital.

He has also held senior posts as Director of Operations at the Oxford Radcliffe Trust, the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham and at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. Before moving to Chesterfield, Gavin was Chief Executive of Yeovil District NHS Foundation Trust in Somerset.

Sue James, the former Chief Executive at Derby, retired at the end of 2015.
