Booking an ambulance

Patients attending their first outpatient appointment within the Royal Derby Hospital or London Road Community Hospital are required to make their own patient transport arrangements should they require support to their appointment. Eligibility and requirements must be assessed before any non-emergency transport is booked, you will be asked a series of questions when making the initial booking enquiry.

For any further queries or bookings please contact EMAS (East Midlands Ambulance Service) on 0300 300 3434.

If you are attending the hospital as an Outpatient and are a Patient Transport User, we would advise that you select an appointment between the hours of 1100 and 1400 to avoid transport delays where possible, if this is not possible please book the available appointment and call the clinic that you are due to attend and make them aware that you are PTS User. Transport needs to be booked at least 24 hours in advance to be guaranteed through the number above. You can book further in advance if you are aware of your regular appointments. It is your responsibility to inform EMAS of any changes/cancellations.

Alternatively depending on the area that you live in, there is a service available which is provided by Derbyshire County Council known as aCTive Travel Services. As a new customer, you are required to register for the service by providing name, address and contact telephone numbers. This service comes with a small fee, once you have informed them of the journey you require, they will inform you of the fee. As much notice as possible is required for this service, it cannot be booked on the day of your appointment.
