Pulmonary rehab (lungs)

Ward 1, Junction 3, London Road Community Hospital

The pulmonary rehabilitation department runs group physical therapy sessions for patients with chronic lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis and bronchiectasis. Currently we can take up to ten patients on each course and there are two courses continually running.

Patients attend as outpatients for a course of pulmonary rehabilitation for six weeks and they have two sessions a week with a rest day in-between. Each session comprises of an tailored exercise programme where we improve cardiopulmonary fitness and muscle strength. This is followed by an education session teaching patients how to manage their condition.

Patients may only be referred for pulmonary rehabilitation if they are currently under the care of a respiratory consultant.
