About our service

Therapists will provide a specialist physiotherapy service to patients on elderly medicine wards. Typically patients require therapy input following reduced mobility, falls, inability to cope at home, and musculoskeletal injuries. They will assess you getting in and out of bed, standing, walking and provide you with any required aids to help with these.

We also provide a Neuro-Outreach Physiotherapy service, see below.

Therapists will provide you with support and advice to help you return to your previous level of mobility if appropriate. Realistic treatment goals will be set together with you and your family if appropriate, in order to facilitate a safe discharge to either your home, an alternative residence or for further rehabilitation. These issues are discussed with you and your family during your stay on the ward.

Our aim is to discharge patients from medicine in a safe and timely manner, providing appropriate equipment and ongoing therapy as required. Therapists have close links with community services to ensure patients receive the appropriate on-going Physiotherapy they require on discharge from the ward.

The Neuro-Outreach Physiotherapy service is provided to all the integrated medicine wards. The therapists provide specialist assessment and rehabilitation of adults with complex neurological disabilities resulting from a neurological injury or condition (neurological – relating to the brain and nervous system). We can provide supportive seating, positioning advice to staff, support and advice to patients and family, rehabilitation support to ward therapists and organise referrals to specialist services. Therapists will provide a key link between the ward and neuro-rehabilitation at Kings Lodge.
