Children’s services

Derbyshire Children’s Hospital, Royal Derby Hospital
(best entrance - entrance 18)

The Derbyshire Children's Hospital serves children and their families across southern Derbyshire.  Each clinical area is unique and offers a variety of services to neonates, babies, children and young people.  Services provided include:

  • Neonatal, respiratory, diabetes, complex medical and surgical services supported by specialist nurse outreach teams.

  • On-site occupational therapy, physiotherapy, x-ray and phlebotomy services for children.

Supporting families, parents and carers

At Derbyshire Children's Hospital, an integral part of the philosophy is the provision of holistic, family-centred care.  Consequently, visiting times are open.

Parents are offered accomodation either on the ward beside the bed, or in our purpose-built parents' suite, which has a kitchen and shower.  Use of these facilities are managed by Puffin ward.

Supporting our staff

Staff are supported at all times by a preceptor, their colleagues and line manager.

In addition, the paediatric development team is based on Puffin ward and comprises a clinical educator and professional development nurses.  They work within the clinical framework and are involved in the induction of all new employees, as well as facilitating training and development for all staff within the Children's Hospital.
