Outpatient services


Breast Screening

Breast screening is provided under the National Breast Screening Programme for women aged between 50yrs and 70 yrs who are resident in Southern Derbyshire and registered with a general practitioner.

Invitations for screening are sent automatically approximately 3 weeks before the appointment time.

Women will be called to either the London Road Community Hospital or to one of the mobile screening vans which are situated in one of the following 10 sites throughout the region, Swadlincote, Alfreton, Ilkeston, Long Eaton, Belper, Ripley, Heanor, Ashbourne, Wirksworth, Hilton.

Limited appointments are available at the Royal Derby Hospital.

Symptomatic breast services

This service is only provided at the Royal Derby Hospital.

Access to this service is via a general practitioner referral using the “Choose and Book” system.

This is for anyone with breast symptoms, either male or female, and everyone is seen within 2 weeks of their referral, as per government guidelines.

All necessary diagnostic investigations are performed at this visit by a multi-disciplinary team.

Prosthetic fitting service

A prosthetic fitting service is available for ladies who have had breast surgery.

An experienced fitter is available at the following times;

08:30 - 13:00 
 12:00 - 17:00
 08:30 - 12:30
08:30 - 17:30 
 08:30 - 17:30



Access to this service is by appointment only.

A wide range of bras and prostheses are available as well as swimwear and other accessories.
