Acute assessment


Level 1, Ambulatory care centre, Royal Derby Hospital (the nearest entrance is main entrance/Ambulatory care centre)


Acute assessment houses the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU), MAU triage, the Ambulatory Care Centre and the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU).

Patients are referred to our services by the Emergency Department, their GP, or the out of hour’s service. Their stay is usually limited to 48 hours.

We are a large team of nurses, doctors, support workers and specialists who assess, diagnose and treat patients with acute medical problems.

Other Information

You can visit patients on the acute medical unit at any time, day or night.

Patients referred to us should always try to bring all their medicines with them.
