Winners: August - September 2015

Between August and September 683 nominations were made, all of which received a personalised certificate from our chief executive, Sue James.

In early November the overall winners were invited to the Pride of Derby awards presentation, to be congratulated for 'going the extra mile'  for their patients and colleagues.

Best Frontline member of staff

Winner: Sonia Greenwood

Specialist nurse in respiratory medicine Sonia was nominated for her holistic approach to treating asthma patients. She was nominated by a patient who suffers with brittle asthma, who said she was very grateful for Sonia’s efforts to always go ‘above and beyond’. By making herself available in this way, Sonia has helped to reduce admissions and length of stay for patients.

Best Behind the Scenes members of staff

Winner: Ruth Marriott and Kate Wallage 

Healthcare science assistants, Ruth and Kate were nominated for beginning CPR on a patient who collapsed following a blood test at a clinic in Heanor. The man had seemed fit and healthy, but collapsed suddenly following his blood test. They started CPR and helped the man until the ambulance arrived.

Best Team 

Winner: Medical Assessment Unit

The team were nominated for helping a patient to leave hospital to attend her son’s cremation. Staff arranged for the patient to take time out of hospital and return later, despite the fact she had been admitted only the day before following a heart attack..

Beth Ratcliffe_POD

Best Inspirational Leader

Winner: Beth Ratcliffe

Senior Sister on Ward 301, Beth was nominated for setting up the urology assessment unit, which has made a huge difference to staff. The changes she has made have resulted in patients spending less time in  hospital, and have reduced the number of patients left waiting for treatment in SAU.
