Best Hospital Bereavement Team – Derby Teaching Hospitals Bereavement Link Team

This multi-disciplinary team supports families after they have lost a baby through stillbirth, miscarriage or neonatal death. They were named Best Hospital Bereavement Team after winning a public vote.

Best Use of IT to support Healthcare Business Efficiency – Htrak

A simple idea - based on the barcode scanners used in supermarkets - which is transforming surgical operations at the Royal Derby Hospital won a major national award.

Royal College of Emergency Medicine - Young Investigator Award 

Dr Andrew Tabner and Dr Graham Johnson won this award to continue developing a research project to look at using salbutamol to treat kidney stones. It will allow them to further their research.

Association of Volunteer Managers Awards 

Excellence in Volunteer Services Management  - Volunteer Services at Derby Teaching Hospitals. (Winner)

HSJ Sustainability Awards

Overall winner - Travel Plan for Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Derby Teaching Hospitals won this award for the travel plan compiled for staff, patients and visitors.

NHS Leadership Awards

Coach/Mentor of the Year – Sam Walker

Former Chief Executive Sue James received a lifetime achievement award for her contribution to the NHS, as she came to the end of an illustrious career.

The Trust was also shortlisted in five categories: 

Inspirational leader – Jenny Sidle, lead nurse for operations; Collaborative leader – Neil Radford, associate director of operations; Development Champion - Clare Sutherland, lead ACP; Innovator – James Mayne, E-procurement manager.

Derby Teaching Hospitals Facilities Management Team shortlisted for Facilities Team of the Year and Air Arts shortlisted for Collaborative Arts Project of the Year.

Global Award – Htrak barcode scanner

A simple idea which has been transforming surgery at Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has been honoured in a global award scheme.

Best Accident and Emergency Care Awards - Royal Derby Hospital Emergency Department. (Winner)

The accident and emergency department at the Royal Derby Hospital has won a top national award for ‘excellence in emergency care.

HSJ Value in Healthcare Awards

Workforce Efficiency and Training and Development Categories – Emergency Department Workforce redesign.

A successful scheme to recruit and retain more middle-grade doctors in the Emergency Department was named as the winner in two categories. The Trust was also shortlisted in two categories: The Elective Procedures Unit was shortlisted in the Acute Service Redesign category, and HTrak was shortlisted in Technology and IT.

East Midlands Academic Health Science Network Awards

Medical Technology category - Improving Patient Experience of major foot and ankle surgery using disposable elastomeric anaesthetic infusion pumps.

A multi-disciplinary team, who have been working on this scheme for around two years, were successful in winning the award.
