Career development

We are committed to offering learning and development opportunities for all full-time and part-time employees. No matter where you start within the NHS, you will have access to extra training and be given every chance to progress within the organisation.

You will receive an annual personal review and development plan to support your career progression, and you'll be encouraged to progress through the Knowledge and Skills Framework.

The Trust is committed to the education, learning and development of its entire staff.

The education and learning department co-ordinates, manages and develops, both continuing personal and professional development, for Trust staff.

The new millennium saw a major push towards workforce development, driven by Department of Health strategies such as the NHS Plan (DoH, 2000), Working together - learning together: A framework for lifelong learning for the NHS (DoH, 2001), Agenda for change (DoH, 1999; 2004), the Knowledge and skills framework (DoH, 2004) and the Learning for change in healthcare (DoH 2006).

In line with these strategies, the education and learning department have formulated a 'Lifelong learning and continuing professional development strategy' for the Trust, laying down the principles, values and objectives of our organisation in this area.

The department currently co-ordinates learning and development in areas such as initial induction for newly recruited staff, vocational training qualifications and foundation degrees for non-registered staff, essential skills, statutory and mandatory training, professional development, practice learning support, learning beyond registration together with leadership and management qualifications for more experienced and senior staff.
