Work Experience

cartoon

Derby Teaching Hospitals is committed to providing work experience wherever possible. By offering work experience the Trust is forging partnerships with the local community, in addition to improving opportunities and promoting equality of opportunity and access to healthcare.

We try to offer the following:-

  • Work Experience for secondary school students from 14 years old

  • Opportunities for post 16 students and pre graduates dependant on areas of interest

Work Experience and placements for careers in medicine

If you are interested in pursuing a career in medicine, there is a separate course available through the HOSPEX programme.

    Secondary Schools

We work in partnership with locals in the Derby area to provide work experience placements in various departments in the Trust.

We are currently assessing potential placements available from August 2018 onwards. Priority for placements will be given to students in secondary schools within Derby that we are in partnership where possible.

Applications from students from non partnership schools will be considered where there has been an expression for a specialised area of interest where possible.

For further information, advice or an application form, please contact Olivia Jackson at olivia.jackson@nhs.net or 01332 789665.

NHS Careers Events

Our annual onsite NHS careers event for 14 – 19 year olds was first launched in 2014, and due to its huge popularity the Trust has continued to run this event each year to popular demand. This free event which takes place in the evening consists of a market place as well as scheduled career talks which enable students to obtain information on academic and career pathways on both clinical and non clinical careers.

Our next NHS Careers Event which will be open to 13 – 19 year olds will be taking place on Friday 1st February 2019, 5:30pm – 8pm in the Education Centre, Royal Derby Hospital.
