13.7 Preparations for warts and calluses

Notes:

1.Podophyllum is toxic and very irritant. Keep away from face, especially eyes. It is usually applied in the GU clinic, but if it is to be applied by the patient, strict instructions should be given not to over-treat, and to protect surrounding unaffected skin with soft paraffin. Where there are a large number of warts, only a few should be treated at a time. Podophyllum should not be used during pregnancy.

2. Podophyllotoxin is available for self-treatment of penile warts. It is much more expensive, but can reduce the need for weekly clinic visits.
