BacT/ALERT Blood Culture Set (Two Bottles) Paediatric Bottle (One Bottle)
Volume required
10ml recommended for an adults set - smaller volumes may affect efficiency. 4ml for a paediatric bot
Special requirements for specimen collection
Please see policy below for procedure for taking samples for blood culture bottles. 
Please DO NOT PLACE PATIENT LABELS OVER BARCODES ON BOTTLES. 
Protect bottles in storage from light. 
Do not fridge the bottles, please send to pathology immediately.

You must record on the form if the patient is suspected Endocarditis, has a history of foreign travel with PUO or any suspicion of a high risk infection. 
Positive results are telephoned and interim reported as available.
