Welcome to the Pharmacy Department
The Pharmacy department employs friendly & professional staff providing comprehensive services and support to patients, wards and departments across the Trust.
The services we provide include:
The main dispensary (situated on Level 1, near to the Children’s Hospital) provides outpatient and daycase medicines as well as medicines for inpatients and dispensing for patients due to be discharged. The dispensary includes a dispensing robot with facilities for labelling to help ensure the safe, efficient dispensing and management of medicines.
Supplies are usually made in original packs for 28 days, unless a specific course for a different length of time is required. If the medicine is only available from hospital, longer courses may be supplied.
The main dispensary opening times:
-
Monday – Friday 8:30am to 7:00pm
-
Saturday, Sunday & Bank Holidays 10:00am – 1:00pm
The majority of outpatient prescriptions are dispensed from the Boots Pharmacy near the main entrance of the hospital. Staff at your appointment will be able to advise you where you need to go.

Other services provided for by Pharmacy:
‘Aseptic’ (sterile) preparation of a wide range of injectable medicines is undertaken in our licensed manufacturing unit, and aseptic dispensing areas near to various wards in the hospital.
A Clinical Pharmacy service provides specialist pharmacist support at ward level to ensure prescribing is safe, effective and economic. We provide medicines information and support to our patients. Increasingly inpatients are encouraged to bring their own medicines into hospital with them during their stay as an inpatient.
Education, training and development
We pride ourselves on having a 'fit for practice' workforce through the education, training and development opportunities given to all pharmacy staff.
Research & innovation is actively supported across the Trust as well as encouraging and undertaking local practice research and audit.
