Your appointment

When you arrive

A member of staff will welcome you and check your personal details. Please let us know if you change your name, address, telephone numbers (home, work or mobile) or GP.

We aim to see you within 30 minutes of your appointment time. However, due to emergencies and unforeseen circumstances, appointments may run behind schedule. If there are delays, we will keep you informed.

What to expect

You may see the doctor or a member of the team.

Please ask any questions you wish. If you feel the doctor has not understood what you have said, please repeat it. If there is a medical term or instruction you are worried about or do not understand, please ask us to explain it.

We understand you may be nervous, but we are here to help. Do not hesitate to raise any worries or questions you may have.

Please say if you want to take someone into the consultation with you. It may make you feel more relaxed and they may ask questions you have forgotten.

In certain clinics it is usual for you to be examined, so if possible, please wear clothes that you find easy to remove.

Throughout your visit, your privacy, dignity, religious and cultural beliefs will be respected. If you have any concerns please discuss them with a member of staff.

You will be told what will happen after the consultation. This may include further investigations or treatment and possibly a follow-up appointment.

What happens next?

After your appointment a letter will be sent to your GP telling them about the findings or opinions of the healthcare professional and advising them as necessary of the next steps in your treatment.

If you are still not clear about any details of your consultation, please make an appointment with your GP to discuss your care further.

We will ask you for your mobile phone number because we may text you reminders and possible changes to your outpatient appointment(s). Simply tell us if you do not want to receive such texts.
