The new discharge lounge at the Royal Derby Hospital has been designed to improve efficiency, patient comfort and provide a 'home-from-home' feel.

Patients often ask ‘when can I go home?’ therefore in an effort to improve the discharge process we have established a target time for all discharges – 10am. If a patient is unable to leave the hospital by 10.00am on the day of discharge, they may be transferred to the new discharge lounge on level 2 (next to ward 205) whilst they wait to be collected by their families, transport or wait for their medication to be dispensed. The discharge lounge offers:

  • 18 chairs, 2 comfy reclining chairs and 3 bed bays
  • Free hot/cold drinks and snacks are available throughout the day.
  • Toilet facilities including disabled access facilities are available for patient use
  • Selection of newspapers/magazines
  • Radio/television

The discharge lounge is open 7.30am – 7.00pm Monday to Friday.

The discharge lounge is led by charge nurse, Michael Carpenter and staffed by qualified nursing staff and health care assistants.

Contact telephone number is 01332 787536 or mobile 07879115885.
