Paediatric Hospital Life Support (PHLS)

Objectives

To understand how to recognise, assess and manage the sick child; how to perform safe paediatric life support (CPR); treatment of the choking patient; the recovery position.

Accrediting Body

Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Target Group

Recommended for staff employed in areas where children are seen as patients. 

May be relevant to any other staff who wish to attend (with prior agreement from manager); volunteers.

Duration

Two hours

Assessment

Candidates are assessed in small groups and will be expected to perform safe, effective basic life support to a satisfactory standard. Successful completion of the session results in updating of training details on the staff database.

Cost

This session is free to all staff employed by the Trust.  External candidates will incur a charge of £25.
