Course summary

Advanced Shoulder Triage Course

The course is aimed at GPs, advanced nurse practitioners, A&E SHOs and physiotherapists working in primary care or triage clinics. The aim of the course is to improve clinical assessment skills and understanding of which patients to refer to secondary care for elective or urgent treatment based upon research evidence and national guidelines.

Therapists


The course is aimed at therapists wishing to improve their knowledge of shoulder injuries and their clinical diagnosis. Emphasis is given to a MDT approach so includes an overview of diagnostic imaging, joint infection and surgery. A practical elements also included, focussing on specialist clinical tests and rehabilitation.

 

GP's and physiotherapists:


To review history, examination, investigation and management of upper limb fractures, rotator cuff pathology, arthropathology, shoulder instability and frozen shoulder. The course includes a live demonstration of diagnostic ultrasound imaging and new developments in shoulder surgery.

There is no assessment component of this study day; it is built around practical workshops and case studies.

 

ST 3-8 Orthopaedic Trainees - Basic Shoulder and Elbow Course with Cadeveric Workshop

The course will cover the common conditions presenting to an upper limb clinic, focussing on examination, investigation and treatment.

It will consist of practical workshops covering examination of patients; injections; theatre set up and draping. Dissection with surgical approaches to shoulder, humerus and elbow plus cadaveric elbow replacement and theory lectures covering a spectrum of conditions: • Instability • Arthritis • Cuff pathology • Adhesive capsulitis


SPR's


Recommended for ST 1-4 orthopaedic trainees. This study day covers the common conditions presenting to an upper limb clinic, focussing on examination, investigation and treatment. There is opportunity for dissection of fresh frozen cadavers and practical workshops including; examination of patients, case history discussion groups and discussion of investigations.

Recommended for F2, CT1 and CT2 grade doctors. This course aims to improve your clinical skills and gain confidence in orthopaedic clinics and in managing orthopaedic emergencies. Our expert faculty includes Consultants in Orthopaedics, Rheumatology & Radiology plus clinical specialist Physiotherapists.

There are practical workshops covering; examination & injections of peripheral joints/ Patient examination/ Case history discussion groups.

Theory lectures; logical approach to management of common spinal, upper & lower limb.

Orthopaedic pathologies; septic arthritis/ the swollen joint/ malignancy.
