Hospital Life Support & Automated External Defibrillation (HLS & AED)

Objectives

To understand the systematic approach to assessment of patients at risk of cardiac arrest (ABCDE); how to perform safe adult life support (CPR); how to safely operate the automated external defibrillator (AED); signs, symptoms and immediate management of anaphylaxis.

Target Group

Recommended for all registered clinical staff with direct patient contact; doctors not on the Resuscitation Team.

May be relevant to registered clinical staff with indirect patient contact.

Duration 2hrs

Assessment

Candidates are subject to continual assessment throughout the session and are required to be competent at cardiopulmonary resuscitation and safe operation of the AED.  Successful completion of the session results in updating of training details on the staff database.

These sessions are NOT drop-in sessions.
