Andy’s team signs up to Pedal in the Peaks!

       14 June 2012

A team of nine are taking on the Pedal in the Peaks cycle ride to raise money for the Chemotherapy Suite at the Royal Derby Hospital – a cause close to their heart.

Leading the group from Somercotes is Andy Bestwick, who decided to take on the challenge as a thank you for the care that his wife Teresa is receiving there.

There is still plenty of time to sign up for Derby Hospitals Charity’s Pedal In The Peaks cycle ride on Sunday 24 June 2012.

Andy said: “When I told friends and family what I was doing, they decided to do it with me. Teresa is receiving great care here at the hospital and this is our way of saying thank you.  It will be a real team effort and we’ll help each other to keep going up the hills!”

Andy and Teresa are also arranging a collection at their local pub straight after the cycle ride to raise as much as possible.

Starting and finishing at the visitor centre at Carsington Reservoir at 9.30am, the 35 mile Pedal in the Peaks cycle ride takes in parts of the Tissington Trail and the High Peak Trail. With 25 miles of traffic free riding and 10 miles on country roads, cyclists will enjoy the Derbyshire dales at their best.

Kerry Brady, Events and Community Fundraiser for Derby Hospitals Charity, said: “This event is a test of stamina, but it’s not a race so everyone can cycle at their own pace. As with all our events, fundraisers can support the ward or department that means the most to them, and it’s great that Andy and Teresa have chosen to support the Chemotherapy Suite.”

There’s still time to register - cyclists can register online at www.derbyhospitals.nhs.uk/charityevents or contact Kerry Brady on 01332 786445 or email kerry.brady@derbyhospitals.nhs.uk for more information.
