Patients say they would recommend Derby Hospitals to friends and family

Survey results released yesterday show that patients admitted to Derby Hospitals would recommend the service or ward to their family or friends if they needed similar care or treatment.

The 'Friends and Family Test' which was officially launched in hospitals across England and Wales on 1 April 2013 sees patients who have been admitted to hospital overnight or who needed minor treatment in A&E (accident and emergency) asked the question: "How likely are you to recommend our wards or A&E department to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment ?" Patients are asked to respond to a number of options ranging from 'extremely likely' to ' extremely unlikely' to, and are given the opportunity to provide more information about what worked well and not so well during their hospital visit.

The results for Derby Hospitals have been very positive with 78% of patients saying they would be highly likely to recommend the Services at Derby Hospitals to Friends or Family.

Chief Nurse and Director of Patient Experience, Cathy Winfield said: "We have been using the Friends and Family Test across our hospitals for over a year after being part of the national pilot for the system. We are pleased with our improving feedback from our patients. We use the test as part of our wider "Yours Views Matter" campaign, which encourages patients to give us feedback good or bad about their care and treatment so that we can make improvements and learn from their experience"

"Patients are at the very heart of what we do, any hospital admission can be a difficult and frightening time for patients particularly when they are very sick so we are delighted that they feel highly enough of us to recommend our services.

"I would like to take the opportunity to thank every patient who has completed the questionnaire so far, and would encourage everyone who receives treatment as an inpatient or A&E to continue to give their feedback so that we can make our care and services as good as they can be."
