Patients positive about Trust in National Inpatient Survey

80 per cent of patients surveyed at Derby Teaching Hospitals rated the care they receive as seven out of ten or higher, according to the results of the Care Quality Commission’s National Inpatient Survey.

A sample of 570 patients who stayed in the Royal Derby and London Road Community Hospitals in 2016 responded to the survey, which asks a range of questions about their experience during their hospital stay.

The Trust achieved scores above the national average in most areas, including questions about whether patients felt well looked after, the quality of communication from staff and the way their privacy and dignity was maintained. However, the survey highlighted some areas where improvements could be made, following a reduction in scoring compared to last year.

Jim Murray, Acting Director of Patient Experience and Chief Nurse, said: “It’s very encouraging to see that the majority of our patients are satisfied with the services and care we provide. We work hard to ensure patient experience is one of our key priorities, and we know that it’s often the small things we do which can make a big difference to our patients. We know there are always areas where we can improve and we are now working on a plan to address the small number of issues highlighted by the survey.”
