New IT system for Derby’s Emergency Department

Published 18/04/2017
:

Patients in Derby are being urged to attend A&E only if they have a genuine emergency as a new IT system is installed in the department.

The Lorenzo patient administration system will launch in the Adults’ Emergency Department on Wednesday, 14 June.

Although every effort will be made to minimise the impact of the installation of the new system, there could be some delays as patients are booked in. Urgent emergencies will be prioritised.

Neil Radford, Divisional Director for Medicine at Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “This system will improve communications within the hospital and streamline the administration process for patients and staff. While every effort has been made to keep disruption to a minimum on the days when the system goes live, there may be a slight delay for some patients coming to the department. To avoid long waits we would urge all patients to use either Derby Urgent Care Centre or Minor Injuries Units in the county if they have a minor illness or injury.”

Clinical care will not be affected by the change.
