The outstanding contribution of the retiring Chief Executive of Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been recognised with an award.

Sue James’ long NHS career was marked at the East Midlands Leadership Academy Recognition Awards when she was presented with a special achievement award honouring her 40 years’ service.

She said: “It was a complete surprise. It was a lovely way to know that other people recognise some of the work I’ve done. Everybody in that room was there because of their leadership qualities.  They have all made a huge difference to patients, so it was lovely to receive an award in a group of such great leaders.”

Sue will step down from her role at the helm of the Trust next week, after spending the last five years in Derby. She previously worked in London, Leeds, South Yorkshire and the West Midlands. She was Chief Executive at Barnsley District General Hospital and Walsall Hospitals before arriving at Derby.
