Derby Hospitals’ transport officer crowned ‘travel champion’

Published 17/03/2015

A “tireless” staff member at Derby Hospitals has been named travel champion at a top city awards ceremony.

Andrea Shaw is the Trust’s Transport and Sustainability Officer and works to encourage staff to make use of environmentally-friendly transport.

And today she was named Travel Champion at this year’s Connected Derby awards.

The ceremony recognises those organisations and people committed to promoting and encouraging staff and visitors to use sustainable transport.

It is the second time Derby Hospitals has been honoured at the Connected Derby awards, held at Derby College’s Roundhouse.

Last year the Trust picked up the Connected Large Employment Site of the Year award, for its work to increase the number of staff walking, cycling and using public transport, and reducing numbers of single-occupancy vehicles by 8%.

Emma Davis, Travel Plan Officer at Derby City Council, said: “We are delighted to award Andrea the Connected Travel Champion of the Year Award for her tireless efforts to improve sustainable travel options to and from the various Derby Hospital sites.

“She is enthusiastic, exceptionally well-organised and committed in her role. She thoroughly deserves this award and Connected would like to extend their thanks for her continued support.”

Paul Brooks, Associate director of Patient Experience and Facilities for Derby Hospitals, said: “It is great to see Andrea’s work recognised like this. She has made such a big impact in making this Trust as sustainable and environmentally-friendly as it can be. We’re all really proud of her.”
