The Prime Minister says the Royal Derby Hospital is a “fantastic example” of the best quality NHS care. David Cameron has been meeting nurses and patients during a visit to the hospital this morning.

“The Royal Derby is a fantastic example of how the NHS provides good quality care for patients. Today I've heard how simple measures like nurse care rounds and the friends and family test are being used to improve standards in every ward” said David Cameron after touring a ward at the Royal Derby.

“I want to see all hospitals do the same so that we give patients the best possible care. I'd like to thank the staff at the Royal Derby for the great work they do” added the Prime Minister.

David Cameron used his visit to the Royal Derby Hospital to announce a new package of support for nurses, health care assistants and wider NHS staff, aimed at driving up care standards across the NHS.

The Prime Minister said that compassionate care must be everyone’s business.

“It has been a privilege to host the Prime Minister on his visit today” said Derby Hospitals Chief Executive Sue James. “Mr Cameron praised our nurses for the high standards of care which are evident throughout Derby Hospitals. I’d particularly like to thank the staff involved in the visit for ensuring the Prime Minister had a real opportunity to see how proud they are to work here and for leaving him in no doubt that even during times of high pressure quality care remains our priority.”
