Spasticity

Location

Rehabilitation, level 1, Royal Derby Hospital
(best entrance - entrance 14)

About

Spasticity is a physical condition that occurs when nerve signals do not reach muscles due to disease or accident because of problems with the brain or spinal cord. It can mean muscles become very tight and stiff and prove very uncomfortable for the patient.

The spasticity department provides a multidisciplinary assessment to patients with complex spasticity and other components of the upper motor neurone syndrome whose needs have not been fully met within other neuro-rehabilitation settings.

Where appropriate, we liaise with community services to ensure adequate management and support of individual patients.
