About us

The Clinical Measurement Department undertakes clinical investigations to aid diagnosis, monitor and treat respiratory conditions.

Services

Lung Function

Spirometry is performed by physiologists in the department to aid diagnosis and assess severity of diseases such as Chronic obstructive airways disease and Asthma. Gas transfer and lung volume measurements can also be made to give more detail about a lung condition.

Obstructive Sleep Apneoa

Physiologists perform overnight oxygen saturation studies to diagnose sleep apnoea. Once diagnosis has been made treatment with CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) is instigated. Support for these patients is then ongoing. The Sleep apnoea team was highly commended in the ‘Team of the Year’ awards in 2008.

Exercise Testing

Various methods of assessing exercise tolerance are performed. These include simple walk tests and more complex measurements of oxygen uptake during exercise. These tests can be used to assess patients pre operatively. The Cardio pulmonary exercise team was awarded winner of the ‘Team of the year 2011’.
