Hospital palliative care team

About

The hospital palliative care team are a multi professional team of clinical nurse specialists (Macmillan) and palliative medicine doctors providing care within a hospital setting for patients with life-limiting illnesses.

Services

The hospital palliative care team offers advice, support and care to patients with advanced, progressive and life-limiting illnesses, both cancer and non-cancer.

Additionally we provide support to their carers, families and staff in Derby Teaching Hospitals; the Royal Derby Hospital, London Road Community Hospital and Kingsway Hospital.

The advice and support includes:

  • assessment of palliative care needs
  • symptom management
  • psychological, social and spiritual support
  • end of life and terminal care


The service is available seven days a week

  • Monday to Friday: 09.00 - 17.00
  • Saturday & Sunday: one Macmillan nurse is on duty 09:00 - 17:00 to give advice and urgent visits

Other Information

Referrals

Referrals can be made by any member of the ward team and should be made to the team secretary via telephone.

Patients must be aware of and agreeable to the referral.

  • Sat & Sun: 09:00 - 17:00,  dial #6180 in Derby Teaching Hospitals


Referrals from sources other than the ward team will be followed up by enquiry with the ward team and referral instigated as appropriate.

Out of hours enquiries should be directed to the Nightingale Macmillan Unit 24 hour advice line for patients, carers & health professionals.
