About
In MAU triage patients will be seen by a consultant from 8am to 10pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 9pm on weekends. The consultant will perform an initial assessment and diagnosis to determine a care plan.
Patients may be discharged from MAU triage if no acute medical problem is identified, or they may:
- Be managed through the clinical decision unit
- Be looked after in a short stay area of the ward with the intention of discharge after treatment
- Be admitted to one of the speciality services.
Patients are referred to MAU by the emergency department (accident and emergency), their GP, or the out of hours service. Their stay is usually limited to 48 hours.
We are a large team of nurses, doctors, support workers and specialists who assess, diagnose and treat patients with acute medical problems.
Other Information
Patients referred to us should always try to bring all their medicines with them.
