CHKS Top 40 Hospitals

Derby Hospitals Top 40

Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was named in a list of ‘40 Top Hospitals’ in the UK for the second year running.  The Trust, which runs the Royal Derby and London Road hospitals, is one of the CHKS 40 Top Hospitals for 2014, an accolade awarded to the 40 top performing CHKS client Trusts.   

The ‘Top Hospitals’ list is based on the evaluation of 22 key performance indicators covering safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.

East Midlands Innovation Awards

Team of the Year – Derby Hospitals Respiratory Team Oxygen Wristband Innovation(Winner)

A Derby Hospitals’ wristband which helps make sure patients are given the right amount of oxygen has won a prestigious award.  The bands were developed by Derby Hospitals’ Respiratory team, led by consultant Dr Gillian Lowrey. As a result of the innovation the team won the Team of the Year Award at the 2014 East Midlands Innovation in Healthcare Awards.

NHS East Midlands Leadership Recognition Awards

Patient Champion – Paul Brooks, Associate Director Patient Experience (Winner) 
Development Champion – Dr Dan Boden, Emergency Medicine Consultant (Winner) 
Mentor/Coach of the Year – Adrian Piggott, Learning and Development Advisor(Winner)

All three short listed staff from the city’s hospitals were declared winners in their respective categories at the East Midlands Leadership Academy NHS Recognition Awards last night, winning Patient Champion, Development Champion and Mentor/Coach of the Year.

Public Sector Sustainability Awards

Most Sustainable Public Sector Project – Derby Hospitals Travel Plan (Finalist)

Derby Hospitals is a finalist in this year’s Public Sector Sustainability Awards, which highlight those organisations which promote green technologies and methods of working.  The Trust’s travel plan was selected among the contenders for the Most Sustainable Public Sector Project category.

Royal College of Midwifery Awards 

Bereavement Care

A Derby midwife has been short listed in the Royal College of Midwifery annual awards for her work helping bereaved families.

Specialist bereavement midwife Sue Rucklidge, who is based at the Royal Derby Hospital, is a finalist in the Award for Bereavement Care.

Social Worker of the Year Awards 

Derby Hospitals Social Worker Wins Silver in Best Adult Social Worker of the Year

A Derbyshire County Council social worker, based at the Royal Derby Hospital, wins a national award for her work in helping patients to cope after leaving hospital.

NHS Employers – Flu Fighter Awards 

Derby Hospitals Wins Most Improved Flu Fighter Campaign

Three-quarters of nurses, doctors and other health professionals working in our hospitals and community services were vaccinated this winter, a 30% increase on the previous year’s figure.  We were pleased to have our achievement recognised by winning the 'Most improved flu fighter campaign' category at the annual NHS Employers Flu Fighter Awards.  

This was a huge achievement for Derby and for our patients and staff who were given a greater chance of staying safe and healthy with a workforce protected against flu.

Connected Derby Sustainability Awards

Large Employment Site of the Year (Winner) 
Travel Initiative of the Year (Highly Commended) 
Promotion of Sustainable Transport (Highly Commended)

Derby Hospitals won an award for its work in encouraging staff to use environmentally friendly transport. The Trust was honoured in the first annual Connected Business Awards, organised by Connected – Derby’s brand for promoting sustainable transport in the city. The awards recognised the work we had done encouraging people to walk, cycle and use public transport more frequently.

Derby Hospitals celebrated after being selected as finalists for six national awards for our ground-breaking work in patient care and safety. Five different categories within the prestigious 2014 national Patient Safety and Care Awards featured Derby Hospitals, with the Quality in Care category featuring two of our projects.
