Winners of Celebrating Success 2015 were announced at the Annual Members' Meeting and Celebrating Success Awards Ceremony on the 16 September at The Roundhouse. 


  • Overall we received 73 entries
  • Judges narrowed each category down to 3 shortlisted projects
  • Over 1700 votes were cast by staff for their winners

The Home from Hospital Voluntary service was set up to assist with the enhanced discharge process and enable a safer transition from hospital to home for patients, allowing them to remain independent longer and reducing the risk of re-admissions.

Reduce and Maintain Elements of the RTT - 18 Week Pathway 

Imaging has transformed to provide Zero Wait and Advanced Booking processes, steering away from an RTT pathway with patients waiting up to 6 weeks for their diagnostics and a further 3 weeks for results. Patients now receive rapid access to diagnostic tests on the same day as their clinic or at the next opportunity, greatly improving their experience.

Standardising Blood Pressure Cuffs

With an assorted range of blood pressure machines, most requiring dedicated cuffs, staff could lose precious minutes trying to find the right size an match, with machines becoming underused or redundant. By standardising blood pressure cuffs, there was an opportunity to increase efficiency, save time and improve standardisation and cost effectiveness, as well as enhancing patient experience, lowering stress and improving comfort.

Ensuring Value from Partnership

OPAT Service (IV Antibiotics in the Community)

The OPAT (Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy) service was created to offer safe, effective care in the community for patients receiving IV Antibiotic treatment. By facilitating the patients discharge, this has reduced occupied bed days, improved patient experience. A multi-disciplinary partnership approach from the OPAT service sees a team of nurses delivery the necessary IV antibiotics in Community Hospitals or in the comfort of patient's homes.

Diane Roberts 

In addition to Diane's role as Pharmacy Finance and Information Officer, she has volunteered to become a Dementia Friends Champion. She has enthusiastically embraced the role to help explain the challenges of dealing with this condition to over 200 of our staff.

Marketing, Communications and Engagement Team 

The Marketing, Communications and Engagement Team have worked exceptionally hard and have contributed to achieving many accomplishments over the last year, including bringing us to National Attention through the successful ITV1 Series 'Superhospital'. As well as including awards, promotion and publicity, and inspections, that has led to raising the profile of Derby Teaching Hospitals.
