Derby Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s ‘Nightingale: Spring Music Season’ is returning on 21 February.
Following a very festive winter musical season at the Royal Derby Hospital, the arts team ‘air’ is launching the spring music season ’Nightingale’. The season will feature an array of vocal performances including folk singer and musician Lester Simpson and the Derby all male Accapella Choir
The ‘Nightingale’ series is performed by soloists and ensembles and run by Derby Hospitals’ arts programme, ‘air’, which aims to provide positive distraction and enhance the hospital environment.
The performances are always positioned in busy places across the Royal Derby Hospital and London Road Community Hospital sites. With an average passing audience of between 300 and 1,000 people per performance, an increasing number of patients, visitors and staff take time out of their busy days to stop and listen
The spring music season will be running from the 21 February-17 April 2012 and will begin with the classical guitarist Alex Lloyd-Williams performing in locations throughout the Royal Derby Hospital as a ‘wandering minstrel’.
Gordon Savage, the conductor of the Derby all male Accapella Choir, said: “We are looking forward to being part of the air arts spring season and performing at the hospital. We very much enjoy singing and performing and if we are able to brighten a person’s day then that is a fantastic accomplishment.”
Derby Hospitals’ arts coordinator Juliet Cooper said: “These small musical interludes, brought to us by some of the city’s finest musicians, are really valuable in the busy life of Derby Hospitals.”
Events like this can only be achieved through fundraising and charitable donations. If you are a company or individual who would like to help continue music performances across Derby Hospitals please contact Juliet Cooper at cooper@hcp.co.uk or on 01332 786203.
